SEATTLE — A Seattle police disciplinary review board has overturned the eight-day suspension given to an officer who was seen on video hitting a suspect for spitting on him.
The appeals board decided last week to overturn the excessive force discipline imposed last year on Officer Eric Faust for an incident that occurred two years ago.
The Seattle Times reports the three-member board agreed the two blows seen on video were justified and reasonable self-defense to prevent the suspect from spitting and exposing officers to biohazards.
The board directed the city to pay lost wages to Faust.
The man who had resisted arrest as a hit-and-run driving suspect, Leo Etherly, later died of an unrelated drug overdose.
