Bill Selia of Everett lives near Fire Station 1 on Rucker Avenue and notes that people routinely miss the fire signal when it is triggered for an alarm. “People just blow through the light down there.” It happens in both directions, he says.
I saw this myself twice in as many hours when I was at Fire Station 1 for a birthday party recently with my daughter. (Incidentally, the fire fighters there put on awesome birthday parties.)
In any case, Bill and I were happy to hear that changes are coming.
“We are aware of the concern. A plan has been formulated that should help reduce driver confusion and hopefully increase compliance. It will result in signal head, signing and stop bar changes to this signal,” said Marla Carter of the city’s Public Works Department. “Look for some of these changes to be implemented in the coming months. It should be fully completed early next year.”
