ARLINGTON — Ulises Acives of Everett and Stanwood’s Michael Wolf each won two matches Friday afternoon and will square off in the finals of the Wesco 3A North Regional tennis tournament.
Wolf led Max Jeffery of Ferndale 6-7, 7-6 in their semifinal match when cramping took the Golden Eagles player out of the tournament.
Acives cruised through the quarterfinal and semifinal rounds, losing just one game to Oak Harbor’s Jackson Wezeman in the semifinals.
In doubles play, Stanwood’s Riley Martin and Pavel Bednarczuk, and Arlington’s Connor Ghirardo and Jesse Vaughan punched their tickets to the finals. Martin and Bednarczuk breezed through the first two rounds, losing just six games through two matches. Ghirardo and Vaughn had an uphill battle to get to the finals, needing three sets in the quarterfinal round to seal their victory.
The tournament resumes at 10 a.m. Saturday at Skagit Valley College in Mount Vernon.
