Your editorial on abandoned houses hit home. (“Limit woes of abandoned homes with a registry.”) We have two houses at 116th SE and 19th SE across from Silver Lake that have been abandoned for years. They were scheduled to be torn down years ago and are still standing. Graffiti has been cleaned up and now it’s becoming a garbage dump.
I was told they would clean it up. And that there were plans for the property, but they didn’t know exactly what they were.
It really makes sense for the city to buy the three lots available and develop a parking lot for the east side of Silver Lake. It is the only property on the east side of the lake that is not developed. With fishing piers and Green Lantern Park right there, and a street light with pedestrian signals for crossing busy 19th SE, it’s a perfect fit.
