My husband recently was called to jury duty. Now I do realize that this is our duty as citizens, but why in the world should our court system expect people to drive almost four hours a day if you live on Camano Island to go to jury duty (in Coupeville)? This is ridiculous and needs to be changed. There are many disabled and/or seniors on Camano for whom this is a true hardship. Yes, I realize many can be excused, but for those who cannot, Camano Islanders should not be required to drive this far! Hopefully this can be adjusted somehow to make jury duty easier to attend.
Many people that I have talked with who live here have never even been to Whidbey Island and do not know the roads, especially in the dark with very few street lights. This is our duty as citizens yes, but what about the duty to the citizens? Four hours a day of driving is not a reasonable demand.
