Most of us are still reeling from the events at Marysville Pilchuck High, trying to make some sense of it all.
We feel sadness for those kids who had some of their innocence taken on Friday.
We are angry that it happened at all, to any school, anywhere.
We grieve for the parents and families of those killed and wounded.
We are thankful for the first responders, whose job must be so hard in a situation like this.
We are filled with admiration for the school officials who helped the kids and each other get through this horrible day.
And finally, we are proud of the staff at Providence Regional Medical Center who took in some of the wounded students and as a team worked to save their lives. Dr. Joanne Roberts, chief medical officer, answered media questions forthrightly and in a way that did not compromise the patients’ privacy. She praised her staff and outside medical staff who offered help. We are fortunate to have Providence as a part of our community as they stand ready to deal with the emergencies that tragedy can cause.
In the end, we may never make sense of it all, but we will, as we always have in times of tragedy, come together as a community to see this through. Because as a community, we are stronger and more able to deal with the emotions that this tragedy is sure to bring out in each of us.
