Wednesday Seahawks links: a visit from Marysville Pilchuck football

Before we get to a whole bunch of football stuff, let’s start out with David Krueger’s story in today’s Herald about something cool that happened Tuesday, with Marysville Pilchuck’s football team practicing at Seahawks headquarters, a trip that didn’t just include a 2-hour practice but also a chance to meet Pete Carroll and a handful of players:

“The Seahawks really rolled out the red carpet for us and did a great job of taking care of us today,” Marysville Pilchuck coach Brandon Carson said. “We’re really appreciative of them. It was really great. It was really helpful.”

Carson said he reached out to the Seahawks, who quickly responded with the practice invitation. Then it was up to the MP players to accept.

“I talked to my captains and asked if that was something they wanted to do,” Carson said. “They looked at me like, ‘Is that even a question?’”

Also in today’ s Herald, a column on several young players coming through for the Seahawks in last week’s win, which is crucial for the team’s long-term success after the 2013 draft class didn’t do much last year.

The Seahawks’ are on the cover of Sports Illustrated this week, and while that cover story is not online yet, the person who wrote it, Greg Bishop, also did this piece on Seattle’s offense for MMQB.com. One source in the story says, “They enabled Harvin for far too long. If you watched the games, you saw it, the way the offense changed. They went outside what worked last year. That’s the thing. No one is scared of that offense anymore.”

Earl Thomas is the only Seahawks to make the midseason All-Pro team at MMQB.com, though Richard Sherman and Jon Ryan get second-team nods.

NFL.com calls the Seahawks one of the league’s biggest midseason disappointment, while USA Today gives the Seahawks a C in its midseason grades.

Not everyone is down on the Seahawks, however, particularly the advanced-stat types. Fivethirdyeight.com has third in its Elo ratings. Footballoutsiders.com is also high on the Seahawks, ranking them third in their DVOA rankings.
