KAMLOOPS, B.C. — There’s something about the Interior Savings Centre in Kamloops that inspires the Everett Silvertips to score goals in rapid succession.
Kohl Bauml and Carson Stadnyk tied a franchise record by scoring goals six seconds apart in the third period, leading the Tips to a 4-1 victory over the Kamloops Blazers on Wednesday night.
Everett was clinging to a 2-1 lead early in the third when Bauml scored on a power move to the net at 4 minutes, 8 seconds. Then off the ensuing faceoff Stadnyk took the puck, got past the Kamloops defense, and scored at 4:14. Kamloops had been gaining control of the game in an effort to tie it when the two quick goals took the wind out of the Blazers’ sails.
Bauml and Stadnyk’s goals six seconds apart tied the franchise record set last season in the same building. Ben Betker and Jujhar Khaira scored six seconds apart during the third period of Everett’s 7-0 victory at Kamloops last Dec. 7.
Bauml finished with two goals, Remi Laurencelle added a goal and an assist, and Nikita Scherbak dished out two assists for Everett (9-1-2-1), which has been dynamite on the road this season. The Tips’ only road loss in seven outings was a shootout defeat at Tri-City on Oct. 17.
Austin Lotz played a solid game in net for the Tips, finishing with 30 saves.
Logan McVeigh scored the lone goal for Kamloops (9-7-1-0). Connor Ingram made 25 saves in net for the Blazers.
Everett got off to a good start. The Tips received a power play less than three minutes into the game, and they converted at 3:30. Laurencelle made a nice pass to Bauml in front, and Bauml banged it past Ingram to stake Everett to a 1-0 lead.
The Tips then doubled their lead at 14:59. Logan Aasman did good work behind the Kamloops goal, winning a scrum for the puck and sending it out front for Laurencelle to put past Ingram and make it 2-0.
Kamloops got back within one 7:42 into the second period. Ryan Rehill’s shot from the point created a scramble in front, and McVeigh eventually banged it in to make it 2-1. The Blazers nearly tied it later in the period when the puck deflected off Lotz’s back, but Lotz somehow spun and kept the puck from falling into the net, keeping it 2-1 going into the third.
