LYNNWOOD — Fast-food chain Chick-fil-A broke ground this week on a stand-alone restaurant in Lynnwood with plans to open by spring.

The restaurant will be located at 3026 196th St. SW next to Lowe’s and will seat 124 with another 16 seats outdoors.

It’s one of three locations opening in the Puget Sound area in 2015. The others are in Bellevue and Tacoma.

“We have heard from so many Chick-fil-A fans in Washington and the Seattle area that they want Chick-fil-A in their neighborhood, and we’re thrilled to join the community of Lynnwood,” said Blake Goodman, director of real estate for Chick-fil-A, in a statement.

The Atlanta, Georgia,-based chain plans to name the franchise operator in the spring, but said the person will live locally and operate the franchise as a small business.

The restaurant opening will create about 80 full- and part-time jobs with hiring expected to begin in early next year.

Chick-fil-A at Lynnwood plans to partner with regional farmers and suppliers. The chain already buys all of its potatoes for hash browns and its waffle fries from the Columbia River Basin and last year bought 2.25 million pounds of apples on the West Coast from Washington state.

The Lynnwood Chick-fil-A is one of more than 100 new restaurants the chain plans to open across the country in 2015, creating more than 8,000 new jobs.

Its sales have grown for 47 straight years, to $5 billion last year, Chick-fil-A says.

The founder of the chain, S. Truett Cathy, who died earlier this year, was called a champion of conservative causes by The Wall Street Journal. Chick-fil-A CEO Dan Cathy, S. Truett’s son, caused a ruckus a couple of years ago when he said he was in support of traditional marriage.

The family are Southern Baptists and the restaurants are closed on Sundays. The restaurant will be open Monday through Saturday from 6:30 a.m. to 10 p.m., serving a breakfast until 10:30 a.m.

At the Lynnwood location, the restaurant is embracing green water and energy features. The Lynnwood restaurant will also pilot a first-of-its-kind recycling program for foam cups, which will be upcycled into dining trays, nametags, pens and picture frames.

The Lynnwood location also has a Facebook pages at www.facebook.com/cfalynnwood.
