Did you hear the one about Russell Wilson and World Series MVP Madison Bumgarner being roommates?

Before he was a Super Bowl winning quarterback, Russell Wilson was also a top baseball prospect out of Collegiate School in Richmond Virginia. So a day after Madison Bumgarner earned World Series MVP honors thanks to three dominant performances in San Francisco’s series victory over the Royals, Wilson was asked how Wilson the baseball prospect might have fared against Bumgarner.

Well it turns out that while Wilson never stepped into the box against Bumgarner, he actually knows the Giants ace pretty well.

“So, funny story about Madison Bumgarner,” Wilson said. “We were roommates at the East-West showcase coming out of high school, the top 100 players. We were roommates also at the Area Code games as well. I’ve gotten to know him over the past few years. I haven’t gotten in touch with him lately, but yeah, I used to play with him. I think we won it all that showcase. He’s a big guy, can really throw it, great athlete. I’m excited for him, he’s a great competitor.”

Wilson and Bumgarner played together at both the Area Code games in Long Beach as well the East Coast Showcase at UNC Wilmington in 2006, the summer between their junior and senior years.

Wilson also noted that he played against Giants catcher Buster Posey when the two were in college, Wilson at NC State and Posey at Florida State.
