Seahawks sign C Lemuel Jeanpierre and DT Travian Robertson

The Seahawks made a couple of roster moves Tuesday to bolster depth on both sides of the line, re-signing center Lemuel Jeanpierre and signing defensive tackle Travian Robertson off of Atlanta’s practice squad. Tackle Andrew McDonald and safety Steven Terrell were released to make room on the roster.

Jeanpierre, who first signed with Seattle in 2010, has appeared in 47 games with the Seahawks starting eight, including three last season in place of an injured Max Unger. He was placed on injured reserve in Sept. with what Pete Carroll described as a nerve issue in his neck, then waived with an injury settlement. Per the terms of the injury settlement, this week was the earliest time that Jeanpierre could sign with Seattle, though he has been healthy for a while and had worked out for other teams. The timing of his return couldn’t be better for Seattle, which will be without Unger for three to four weeks, the result of an ankle injury suffered in Sunday’s loss at Kansas City. Unger’s backup for much of this season, Stephen Schilling is on injured reserve, meaning Patrick Peterson was Seattle’s only healthy center prior to Jeanpierre’s signing.

Robertson, a seventh-round pick in 2012, appeared in 12 games for the Falcons in 2012 and 2013, then was released and signed to Atlanta’s practice squad before the start of this season. He’ll help provide depth for an interior line that suffered a big blow with the loss of Brandon Mebane to a season-ending hamstring injury.

McDonald, who was signed earlier this season after Jeanpierre went on IR, only appeared on special teams duty this season, and was frequently inactive on gameday. Terrell saw game action as a nickel cornerback when the Seahawks were thin at that position, but with Jeremy Lane and Byron Maxwell both back from injuries, the Seahawks had the secondary depth to let Terrell go. He could end up back on Seattle’s practice squad, which currently has an open spot.
