GRANITE FALLS — Police Chief David Bowman remains on extended medical leave after a car accident in October.
It’s unclear when Bowman, 45, will be able to return to work, according to the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office. The sheriff’s office provides police services to Granite Falls through a contract.
Sgt. Todd Swenson has been assigned as interim police chief.
Bowman was hospitalized for more than a week after the Oct. 15 crash.
The Washington State Patrol says he suffered a medical problem before his pickup truck struck a concrete barrier on I-5 south of Stanwood. Officials have not said what kind of medical problem.
At the time, Bowman was on his way to a shooting spree where a gunman was targeting police stations and officers, including in Granite Falls.
The crash remains under investigation, trooper Mark Francis said Tuesday.
In addition, the police chief for Darrington has changed to sheriff’s Sgt. Scott Robertson. The sheriff’s office also provides police services to Darrington under a contract.
