There have recently been a number of letters to the editor in The Herald addressing the issue of differences in beliefs and why it matters. We need to recognize that ideas have consequences and people do act based on what they believe to be true.
There is a monthly online forum, the Apologetics Forum Snohomish County, which addresses the questions that many thinking individuals have about the purpose of our existence and what we believe. The basic question that needs to be answered is “Does what you believe to be true match reality?” It comes down to what evidence you have for “your truth.” Does archaeology, fulfilled prophecy, science, etc. support what you believe?
The Forum has been bringing in speakers with expertise in each of the different areas of inquiry for the past year. For example, this Friday, Dr. John Byl, with a doctorate in astronomy, will speak on the topic “War of the Worldviews: Christianity vs. Naturalism.”
Details at ApologeticsForum.org. Readers with an interest in answers to questions on existence and purpose may find these lectures informative and challenging.
