In reply to the letter criticizing QFC on Broadway and the police for not removing poor, hungry and downtrodden people, I wish to commend the store and the police for their compassion and concern. I also believe that poor and unattractive as some folks might find them, they are actually citizens as well as human beings and probably have the right to “just stand around” out of the rain and maybe even with the right to ask for help. And some of us might give them some, or at least a smile. I, for one, thank QFC and their security for their attitude and this is one reason I like to shop there. It also reflects an attitude I find in the county at large, which is to take responsibility for those less fortunate and try to solve the problem as community rather than just shove them out of sight. So, kudos to QFC!
