King’s football team ousted from 1A playoffs

SHORELINE — For the sixth straight year, the King’s football team reached the Class 1A state quarterfinals.

And for the sixth straight season, that’s where the Knights’ season ended. Cascade Christian defeated the Knights 56-15 Saturday night at King’s High School. It’s the second straight year the Cougars have eliminated King’s from the postseason.

After the first quarter ended in a 7-7 tie, the Cougars (12-0) opened the flood gates, scoring 28 points in the second quarter and 21 in the second half, including a 60-yard interception return by safety Bryce Powers. Running back Riley Ramos scored three touchdowns for Cascade Christian.

Koa Wilkins threw a pair of TD passes for King’s, a 17-yarder to Cooper Wright and a 6-yarder to Corey Kispert.

King’s head coach Jim Shapiro said his team made significant strides during the season.

“It was a pure evolution of the football team from selfishness to unselfishness,” Shapiro said. “It was really a group without a name. There was not one (dominant player), it was a true team effort.”

The Knights finished the season with a 9-3 record.
