TACOMA — A University of Puget Sound student has been selected for a prestigious Rhodes scholarship.
The Rhodes Trust announced Sunday that William J. Rathje of Lake Oswego, Oregon was among 32 Americans selected for the scholarship.
Rathje is a senior at the Tacoma university studying computer science and English literature. He co-founded a literary magazine for new plays, has developed four iPhone apps and composed a full-length musical that was performed in Portland.
Rhodes scholarships provide all expenses for students to study up to four years at the University of Oxford in England. Rathje plans to earn a master’s degree in computer science beginning next fall.
