Phillips, a senior, won his third state championship Saturday, placing first in the 3A 145-pound bracket at Mat Classic XXX. His victory over Redmond’s Jeremy Hernandez in the title match gave him an 85-0 prep record.
Jon Cook, Jackson, Boys Swimming
Cook, a senior, won the 100-yard breaststroke and 200 individual medley relay races Saturday at the 4A state championships at the King County Aquatic Center to complete his prep career with six state titles. He was named the swimmer of the meet.
Joessie Gonzales, Snohomish, Girls Wrestling
Gonzales, a senior, won a state championship Saturday at Mat Classic XXX in Tacoma, defeating Naches Valley’s Kaylee Moore 11-4 to place first in the 130-pound weight class.
Patrick Olson, Kamiak, Boys Basketball
Olson, a senior, scored 19 points Thursday in the Knights’ 72-56 win over Glacier Peak in the 4A Northwest District tournament championship game, a win that secured a state regional spot for Kamiak.
Nakia Boston, Lynnwood, Girls Basketball
Boston, a sophomore, scored 28 points Saturday in the Royals’ 69-59 win over Edmonds-Woodway in a 3A Northwest District tournament contest that clinched a state regional berth for Lynnwood.
