OLYMPIA — The state Department of Corrections says officials are investigating the apparent suicide of a 43-year-old inmate at Washington Corrections Center in Shelton.
Keith Neal was found unresponsive in his cell Wednesday morning with wounds to his arms that officials say appeared to be self-inflicted. According to a news release from the agency, medical staff attempted life-saving measures but were unsuccessful.
Neal had served nearly 12 years of a 35-year sentence on a child rape charge out of Clark County.
Prison administrators and the Mason County Sheriff’s Office are investigating the death.
