FIFE — The Washington State Patrol says the driver of semi-truck that crashed off Interstate 5 at Fife spilling a trailer load of dog food fell asleep at the wheel.
Trooper Guy Gill says the driver will be charged with negligent driving. He admitted he was sleepy and there was no sign of breaking before the truck left the road and landed in a ditch.
The accident happened about 11:45 p.m. Tuesday, and the northbound lanes were restricted until 5 a.m. while the 50-pound bags of dog food were cleaned up.
Gill says the drowsy driver is lucky he wasn’t crushed in dog food. He was sore but apparently uninjured. He was checked at a hospital as a precaution.
