FULLERTON, Calif. — Nigel Williams-Goss scored 21 points and dished out a tournament record 12 assists to lead Washington to 80-70 victory over Long Beach State in the semifinal game of the Wooden Legacy Tournament on Friday night.
Down 54-45, Washington went on a 13-3 run and took a 58-57 lead following a free throw by Mike Anderson with 8:26 to play.
Andrew Andrews and Anderson hit key baskets down the stretch and the Huskies held the 49ers to one basket over the final 5 minutes of play to secure the win for Washington.
Andrews scored 16 points and Robert Upshaw added 12 for the Huskies (5-0).
In a closely contested opening half, Mike Caffey’s basket with 38 seconds remaining gave Long Bach State a 39-38 lead at the break.
Williams-Goss led the Huskies with 15 points as Washington shot 53.6 percent but were outrebounded 19-13 in the first half.
Caffey scored 18 points and Deonate North and Temidayo Yussuf each added 16 points for the 49ers (3-4).
