EVERETT — Wintry weather continued to cause problems for Snohomish County on Sunday.
Below-freezing temperatures kept some roads slick and icy well into the day, according to local police.
In addition, a debris slide Saturday night caused a 48-hour closure of passenger train travel on the Burlington Northern Santa Fe tracks between Everett and Seattle. The slide, mostly made up of downed trees, blocked tracks just south of the Everett depot at about 7 p.m. Saturday, BNSF spokesman Gus Melonas said.
The 48-hour stop on passenger trains is set to expire Monday night. It was the second slide in the area this season, Melonas said. Sports fans planning to head to Seattle for Sunday games were advised to take buses instead of trains.
Meanwhile, poor-air quality Sunday led to a burn ban for Snohomish County starting in the early afternoon. The burn ban is in effect until further notice.
All flooding advisories for the county were canceled by Sunday morning, however, cold temperatures remained a concern. Cold weather shelters throughout the county were expected to stay open through the weekend.
Monday and Tuesday are supposed to be sunny, cold and clear, with the rain setting back in Wednesday.
