STANWOOD — A Stanwood High School student was arrested last week for allegedly making a bomb threat directed at Port Susan Middle School.
Investigators believe the threat was bogus, although its delivery showed some sophistication.
The 15-year-old boy apparently used the wireless Internet connection on his iPod to remotely print the threat on a classroom printer at the middle school, Snohomish County sheriff’s spokeswoman Shari Ireton said.
It happened about 2:20 p.m. Nov. 25, when the suspect and other high school students were on a bus that was parked outside the middle school to pick up additional passengers.
The threat said the middle school was going to explode at 8 a.m. the following day, and “It’s gunna (sic) blow.” The printout also included a photograph of the suspect’s friend, another high school student, Ireton said.
School officials and police quickly identifed the suspect.
He and his parents were interviewed by a Stanwood detective.
The boy “stated that he has no bomb, no intention of bombing the school or anything else, and no bomb- making materials,” Ireton said.
The boys’ parents also confirmed that there were no bomb supplies in their house. They cooperated with the investigation, Ireton said.
The boy was booked into the Denney Youth Center in Everett for investigation of threats to bomb, a felony offense.
A Stanwood-Camano School District spokeswoman on Tuesday said the district followed its policies in responding to the incident and could not discuss whether the student had been disciplined.
