Edmonds Mayor Dave Earling is interviewing five applicants to replace Municipal Court Judge Douglas Fair, who will resign in early January to start his new position on the South Snohomish County District Court.
A search panel recently considered eight applicants but cut the list to five after the panel found that the other applicants didn’t meet all minimum criteria, such as being Edmonds residents.
Fair won election in November to the position that District Court Judge Carol McRae now holds. McRae did not seek re-election. Fair had no opposition in the election.
City Clerk Scott Passey said Friday that the City Council probably will act on confirmation of a nominee either Dec. 16 or Dec. 23.
The appointment will last through certification of the 2015 general election, when voters will choose someone to fill the last two years of the four-year Municipal Court term that Fair won in 2013.
