Before we get into what little news there was today, Pete Carroll had a message to open his press conference, sending his thoughts to people affected by the severe weather in the Bay Area that has lead to flooding and landslide.
“All the people that were hardshipped by that, we’re thinking about them,” Carroll said. “It hits close to home down there. Never seen anything like that, it’s tough for everybody. Hope everybody comes out OK.”
Talking about another NFC West showdown with two more to come to close out the season, Carroll said, “This is as good as it gets in the NFL.”
As for the notion that the 49ers are a struggling team, Carroll wasn’t buying that, saying, “This is an excellent football team. They’ve got excellent players on both sides of the ball… We have tremendous respect for this football team and the way they bring it.”
On Max Unger, who has missed three games with a knee/ankle injury, Carroll said, “He worked today. Max got some practice time in. He’ll be listed as doubtful at this point, but really encouraging signs about his ability to get back here soon.”
On Cooper Helfet, who has missed two games with an ankle injury, Carroll said, “Coop did well in practice today. It looks like he’s got a real chance to play if we call on him.”
