EDMONDS — Cascade Symphony Orchestra and the Sno-King Chorale are cornerstones of the performing arts community in south Snohomish County.
The groups perform back-to-back Christmas concerts at the Edmonds Center for the Arts, 410 Fourth Ave. N., Edmonds.
First up is the community chorale, under the direction of Frank DeMiero, performing “Holiday Magic: The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year” at 2:30 and 7:30 p.m. Dec. 13.
DeMiero is having the concerts professionally recorded to produce the chorale’s first CD. Audience sing-along participation is a big part of the program, so people are encouraged to warm up their voices before they arrive at the hall.
“This is going to be a fun concert,” DeMiero said. “The program is quite involved, it’s fast-moving and it involves all of the holiday favorites.”
With master of ceremonies Dick Thorpe leading the way, the program includes several medleys of Christmas songs and carols. Many chorale members have ensemble or solo parts, including Carol Mabbott singing “O Holy Night.”
Tickets to hear the community chorale are $20 or $17 for seniors and students. Call 425-275-9595 or order online at www.ec4arts.org.
Cascade Symphony’s Holiday Concert is at 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 15.
The program includes excerpts from Tchaikovsky’s “The Nutcracker,” as well as Leroy Anderson’s “Sleigh Ride” and a sing-along.
The highlights are sure to be CSO director Michael Miropolsky and concertmaster Pamela Liu playing the Vivaldi Concerto for Two Violins in A minor, and Beverly Setzer, principal clarinet, performing the Seletsky/Marcus “Channuka Medley.”
Two “Slavonic Dances” by Dvorak and lighter works by Gershwin, Liszt, Anderson, Glinka and Sousa fill out the program.
A 6:30 p.m. pre-concert lecture by KING-FM radio’s Dave Beck is scheduled.
Due to the high demand for tickets, Cascade Symphony administrators urge patrons to return tickets they won’t use to the ECA box office. Even though a concert is “sold out,” such returned tickets do become available at the door. General admission is $20.
For those who are unable to buy a ticket for the Holiday Concert, CSO will hold an open dress rehearsal at 5:30 p.m. Dec. 14, also at Edmonds Center for the Arts.
Though there is no charge for the rehearsal, people are asked to bring a non-perishable item for the Edmonds Food Bank.
