Unbeaten Glacier Peak wrestling team wins twice more

MARYSVILLE — Glacier Peak’s wrestling team defeated Marysville Pilchuck 46-26 for the first of two victories Wednesday and the Grizzlies ran their unbeaten streak to 12 consecutive meets.

Glacier Peak defeated Marysville Getchell 68-9 in the nightcap for their second victory of the day.

“These guys understand what it means to keep working hard and we set some goals early on and this is part of our goals,” Glacier Peak head coach Bryan Mossburg said. “It keeps us on target and they realize they can’t let up. This is setting a stage for the next phase and gets us ready for the holiday swing.”

Glacier Peak started the night by winning three of the first four matches, but the Tomahawks bounced back to win three straight of their own and regain momentum. But Marcus Becerra put the Grizzlies back in the driver’s seat with a pin against Dakota Guzman at 195.

“It stopped that momentum they had and got us going again,” Mossburg said. “(Becerra) is a kid who is just going to give everything he’s got and he knew it was big for us to get a pin. He had a mission and did that and fired the guys up.”

After two MP wins the Grizzlies ended the night with back-to-back pins at 120 and 126. Max Kiser pinned Jonathan Neumann in 1 minute, 22 seconds and Stefano McKinney pinned C.J. Goodman in 1:40.

The Grizzlies will compete in two tournaments over the holiday break, first at Mount Baker Wrestling Invite on December 23, followed by an appearance at the Cat Classic at Eastmont High School on January 3.
