SEATTLE — Nearly seven years after the Christmas Eve slayings of six family members in Carnation, a jury has been selected for the trial of one of the defendants.
The Seattle Times reported that it took more than three months to impanel the 16-member jury for the death-penalty trial of Joseph McEnroe.
McEnroe and his former girlfriend, Michele Anderson, are each charged with six counts of aggravated first-degree murder in connection with the Dec. 24, 2007, shooting deaths of Anderson’s parents, brother, sister-in-law, 5-year-old niece and 3-year-old nephew. The case has been delayed by repeated trips to the state Supreme Court over pretrial issues.
King County Superior Court Judge Jeffrey Ramsdell says 700 potential jurors filled out extensive questionnaires in September, and 400 were invited back for questioning over the past three months.
Although prosecutors are seeking the death penalty, Gov. Jay Inslee has imposed a moratorium on its use while he’s in office.
Opening statements in McEnroe’s case are scheduled for Jan. 12.
