TACOMA — A police standoff in Tacoma has ended with the arrest of a man sought by law enforcement officers in multiple car thefts.
A SWAT team that surrounded a home for several hours Friday fired tear gas before taking the man into custody.
The Pierce County Jail roster shows Jhon Thornock was booked for investigation of two counts of robbery, one count of burglary and four counts of vehicle theft, as well as for warrants alleging stolen vehicle possession.
The News Tribune reported that an auto crimes enforcement team tried to serve at least two warrants Friday morning. When a warrant was served at a Tacoma apartment complex, police spokeswoman Loretta Cool said a fire broke out. An apartment was severely damaged. The fire is under investigation.
The standoff began when the team next went to a home and the man listed on the warrant refused to come out.
Other people left the home when the SWAT team arrived. Three were arrested on outstanding warrants.
