PORTLAND, Ore. — Forecasters are warning excessive rainfall across Oregon and southwest Washington could cause flooding, landslides and other problems.
The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch from the Oregon coast to the Cascades. It is in effect from Saturday afternoon through Monday afternoon.
Officials say the foothills and Cascades are expected to see six to 12 inches of rain, the coast four to eight inches, and the interior up to four inches.
Forecasters say some rivers could reach flood stage by Saturday evening.
Too much rainfall can lead to landslides, debris flow and excessive runoff. Officials also warn rising water levels on roadways can create treacherous driving conditions.
The rains are caused by a Pacific storm system that’s fed by moisture from the South China Sea.
