On Dec. 11, a high wind storm caused the electricity to go out for most of Camano Island. Some parts of the island were without power for more than two days. Karla Jacks and her wonderful staff at the Camano Center were truly ready and willing assists those seniors that needed their help.
About a year ago, the center set up a disaster relief system that seniors on Camano Island could use in the event of a problem like a power outage. Over 80 people signed up for this service. All the persons on the list were contacted before noon on Friday. Some were given a hot meal with our Meals on Wheels program, and others were assisted in other ways. The system worked. All staff members were professional and efficient and took care of those needing services.
As president of the Camano Center, I am proud of the work of our staff and volunteers and pleased to see that they perform so well. This fine work shows what an asset to the community the Camano Center is. It surely is a facility that is well beyond just a recreational building.
