The Seattle Sounders will open their seventh Major League Soccer season at 6:30 p.m. on March 8 at CenturyLink Field against the MLS Cup runner-up New England Revolution.
Seattle is 4-2-0 all-time in MLS openers. This will be their seventh straight opener at home, their sixth against an Eastern Conference opponent, and their fifth on national TV.
The match will be shown on Fox Sports as part of the league’s new eight-year broadcast deal that also involves ESPN and Univision.
The league on Friday announced the home openers for each of its 20 teams. The entire league schedule is expected to be released next month.
The 20th MLS season opens March 6, when the defending champion Los Angeles Galaxy play host to the Chicago Fire.
Expansion newcomers Orlando City SC and New York City FC will debut with a head-to-head match March 8 at the Orlando Citrus Bowl. The San Jose Earthquakes will open their new Avaya Stadium on March 22 against the Fire. Toronto FC won’t play its home opener until Week 10 of the season because of stadium renovation.
The other Cascadia teams kick off March 7: Vancouver against Toronto, and Portland facing Real Salt Lake.
