Notes from Pete Carroll’s Monday radio show

Here are some injury updates and a few other notes from Pete Carroll’s Monday show on 710 ESPN Seattle:

On if trainers popped Tharold Simon’s shoulder back in on the field: “It looked to me like they didn’t get it back in on the field.”

And asked if Simon would get back this week, Carroll said, “Don’t know yet, we’ll see how he responds. I don’t know if he’s ever had that before. Sometimes guys who have had it before, it’s easier for them to come back, but we’ll see what happens.”

Carroll didn’t sound overly optimistic on receiver Jermaine Kearse’s chances this week after he left the game with a hamstring injury: “He felt his hamstring. He didn’t feel the big pop that guys feel, he shut down before that happened. We’ll have to wait and see, but that’s really touch-and-go to get back in a week’s time.”

On Russell Okung and Max Unger, who both missed Sunday’s game, Carroll said, “Russell should practice Wednesday, we’ll see with Max. Talking with Max, he’s going to try to get through. He’ll do whatever he can to get out there this week knowing that if we can get a win, we’ll have a week off, but we’ll have to wait and see. We’ve seen a lot of high-ankle sprains that take six-to-eight weeks. That’s kind of the way we used to see it, but there have been a number of guys who have made it through quicker, so it’s really frustrating for Max; he’s got one of the long-term ones. So we’ll wait and see.”

And some non-injury notes…

—Carroll was impressed not just by the plays Russell Wilson made, accounting for 427 total yards and three touchdowns, but also the mistakes he didn’t make: “They were one of the top turnover teams in the NFL, and they got none. That’s a major, major accomplishment.”

—If you happened to notice Wilson being a bit, um, eager to get off a snap before hitting Luke Willson for a big gain, well so did Carroll, noting with a laugh, “You see him get the happy feet? He couldn’t wait to get the ball, it was really cute. His feet started bouncing like a little kid.”

—Carroll said the 10 first-half penalties were largely the result of players being so excited and “over-trying,” and while he was happy that his team cleaned that up and had just one in the second half, he also noticed that the Cardinals had just one penalty in the game.

“Amazingly they only had one, how ‘bout that?” Carroll said. “Are you kidding me? That’s impossible.”

Whenever Carroll has had issues with the penalty situation this season, it has been less about what is being called on his team and more about the penalties not being called on opponents, but he seems now to have a good sense of humor about it.

“Let’s let the chasm continue to broaden just for the heck of it, and we’ll see what happens,” he said, before adding for emphasis, “eleven to one.”

—Carroll praised the play of his offensive line, which allowed one sack to Arizona after giving up seven last month. Carroll had good things to say about left tackle Alvin Bailey, though he did, with a bit of humor, make it clear they’d like Bailey to play at a little lighter weight than he is now.

“He could be a little bit lighter,” Carroll said. “You don’t need to be 350, but he keeps eating his way to it.”

And a quick programming note, with Christmas this week, the Seahawks have adjusted their schedule this week and will start their practice week Tuesday instead of Wednesday, taking Thursday off. As a result, Carroll won’t have his usual
