Not to be outdone by the likes of Jerry Cornfield or Community Transit, I give you my own holiday ditty — traffic edition.
“Black-Lined Christmas”
The sun is hiding, the sky is gray
The evergreens whip and sway
It’s yet another black day
On I-5 through Snohomish County
And it’s Christmas in 2014
But I’m longing for a time machine…
I’m dreaming of a two-digit commute
Just like the ones grampa used to know
Where brake lights are hidden
And drivers listen
To hear the whoosh of never going slow
I’m dreaming of a two-digit commute
Just like the days when HOT meant hot
Where dawn is more than a glimmer
And I’m home for dinner
Instead of idling in a 17-mile parking lot
I’m dreaming of a two-digit commute
With every toll bill that I’ve seen
May your drives be smooth and serene
And may all your traffic maps be green
And may all your traffic maps be green
