A south Snohomish County woman with three special needs children was given a 2007 Ford Edge earlier this month through Recycle Rides, a nationwide community service program.

Alicia Stout had been taking six to seven buses daily to commute to and from work appointments. She was nominated by the YWCA Seattle/King/Snohomish where she turned when seeking shelter with her children.

She had moved to the Seattle area after escaping from a domestic abuse situation. She spent six months at a shelter and is now living in transitional housing.

All three of her children are in special programs for autism. Isaiaa, 7, has a sensory disorder and has also undergone multiple surgeries for an intestinal disorder.

He requires frequent hospital and medical visits.

Twin daughters, Ahleeya and Amelia, 4, both have varying forms of autism and are in special treatment. Both will start preschool this year.

Stout recently started working providing in-home care.

Recycled Rides is a community service program of the National Auto Body Council in which insurance companies, rental car companies and auto body repairers team up to refurbish and donate vehicles to individuals nominated by local charitable organizations.

Locally, it is sponosred by GEICO, Kirmac Collision/Thoroughbred and Enterprise Rent-A-Car.

GEICO has donated 25 vehicles through the Recycled Rides program this year.
