STANWOOD — What happens when jazz and classical musicians meet?
Find out when the Stanwood Area Historical Society and Concerts at the Floyd present “Yuletide Baroque: Jazzin’ with the Classics” at 2 p.m. Dec. 28 at the Floyd Norgaard Cultural Center, 27130 102nd Ave. NW, Stanwood.
The concert features soprano Linda Tsatsanis, multi-instrument jazz artist Martin Lund, bassist Nate Omdal and classical flutist Jeffrey Cohan.
These renowned classical and jazz artists meld their musical perspectives in an unusual collaboration and celebration of the Yuletide season as they bridge contemporary improvisational jazz and the “art music” of baroque and renaissance times.
Refreshments follow the concert. Suggested donation is $15 but students are free.
The Boston Globe said Tsatsanis possesses “sheer vocal proficiency, a bright, flexible voice, big but controlled, shaded with plentiful color.” The Seattle-based Canadian soprano has appeared locally as soloist with the Seattle Baroque Orchestra and others.
Lund worked in Los Angeles studios as a composer, arranger and musician with the likes of Mel Torme and Isacc Hayes. He is equally adept at clarinet, saxophone, flute and piano.
Called the “flute master” by the Boston Globe, Cohan has performed as soloist in 25 countries. He is artistic director of the Salish Sea Early Music Festival.
Omdal, a Cornish graduate, is one of Seattle’s leading musical innovators. Omdal has worked with such artists as LeRoy Bell of X-Factor, Marnie Nixon, NPR’s RadioLab, Josh Rawlings, Jeremy Jones, Sub Pop Records artists, Rose Windows and Prometheus Brown.
