MOUNTLAKE TERRACE — Despite being without one of its best players — 6-foot-5 senior post Deja Strother, who’s bound for the University of Washington women’s team next season — Inglemoor showed why it’s one of the state’s top Class 4A girls basketball teams, besting Stanwood 56-31 Friday at the Mountlake Terrace Holiday Tournament.
Inglemoor spotted Stanwood the game’s first two points, then quickly moved in front. For much of the second quarter and all of the third and fourth periods the lead remained in double digits.
The Vikings, members of the KingCo 4A, scored 21 of their 32 first-half points from the 3-point line. Forward Alex Hagen, a 6-1 senior who will play next season at San Diego, had four 3-pointers in the first half and another in the second, on her way to a game-high 24 points.
“They’re an excellent team,” Stanwood coach Dennis Kloke said of the Vikings. “And in all truth, we don’t have anyone who matches up with (Hagen). She can do everything. No wonder everybody wanted her. She can shoot threes, she can drive, and she can post up.”
Stanwood trailed 24-15 two minutes before halftime, but Inglemoor got two 3-pointers as part of an 8-2 scoring burst to lead by 15 points at the break. And in the third quarter the Vikings opened with an 11-1 spurt to push their margin to 43-18.
Despite the loss, the Spartans are 7-2 and “we’re progressing,” Kloke said.
Stanwood was led by post Tristan Murphy with 16 points, including 11 in the first half.
Strother missed the game because she is visiting family on the East Coast for the Christmas holiday.
