Worth another listen

2014 has come to a close and the music we got out of the local talent pool was more than strong. From long awaited releases from some of our favorite local bands to brand new bands emerging who are proving to be complete games changers (Like SISTERS).

Like you, I have been seeing best of 2014 lists all over the internet in the last month. I love reading them and always find new tunes that had previously escaped me. But there were a few local releases that somehow seemed to fly under the radar and get left off many of the local “Best of” lists that I have seen.

I don’t want to call these underrated, but they certainly deserve more attention than they got and I think another listen is in order. So check out these samples below and go get your hands on this great local music.

SISTERS – Diamonds of Gold (EP)

Just a year ago SISTERS wasn’t even a band. They quickly emerged as one of the most in demand new bands around with a sound unlike anything else in Seattle. In fact, I’m not sure anybody anywhere is making music like SISTERS. The Diamonds of Gold EP and every time I saw SISTERS live this year has easily made them the band I am most excited about in 2015 and when that full length record comes they are going to turn heads everywhere.

Pepper Proud – The Water Chapter

Lyrically and sonically The Water Chapter is one of the most beautiful releases I heard all year, and I don’t just mean locally. I had given to Pepper Proud’s kickstarter campaign some time ago and completely forgot that I had a CD coming. Then to my pleasant surprise it came in the mail a couple month ago and I can’t stop listening to it. When you see Pepper live she is one of the most graceful and grateful performers around and that feeling is effortlessly heard all over this record. Again, it’s beautiful, go buy this record.

Brothers From Another – The Adventures of Los Hermanos

I don’t think anybody in our local music community is having more fun than Brothers From Another. In 2014 they didn’t officially release an EP but they did release a video series for three new songs that they called The Adventures of Los Hermanos. “Running Home”, “Day Drink” and “Blame it on my Youth” are all summer jams that need to be blasted with the windows all the way down and the system all the way up. Considering what these guys were able to accomplish while they were away at school it should be fun to see what they do now that they are finally done with college and all back together in Seattle. “The adventure continues…”
