MILL CREEK — Vincent Cavaleri has been appointed to fill Mark Harmsworth’s former seat on the City Council.
Harmsworth left Position 5 vacant on the council when he resigned last month to serve in the state House of Representatives.
The council on Tuesday evening interviewed seven candidates for the position. Cavaleri will serve on the council until the results of the November 2015 election are certified.
Cavaleri is a longtime corrections deputy at the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office. He also has served on the city’s Parks and Recreation Board and unsuccessfully ran in the 2009 election for a council slot.* He coaches sports and is a community volunteer.
He beat Zach Anders, S. Michelle Racioppo, Wil Nelson, Lynn Sordel, Herbie Martin and Douglas Carlson.
Correction, Jan. 29, 2015: Cavaleri lost his 2009 bid for the City Council in the general election. An earlier version of this story reported that he lost in the primary.
