SEATTLE — King County prosecutors have filed first-degree assault and robbery charges against a man accused of slitting a video game store clerk’s throat during a robbery in the south Seattle suburb of Renton.
The Seattle Times reported that prosecutors alleged Friday that 44-year-old Darren Gayles entered a GameStop store Wednesday and held a knife to the female clerk’s throat. They say Gayles forced the 23-year-old woman to open the cash drawer and then cut her throat.
Now held on $1 million bail, he’s due for arraignment Jan. 29. It was not known late Friday whether he had a lawyer.
The newspaper says relatives of the seriously injured victim, Kiersten Shideler, say she is improving at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
