EVERETT — The second-highest-ranking person in the Snohomish County Assessor’s Office plans to seek election to her boss’ job this year.
Deputy county assessor Linda Hjelle has worked in the office for more than 25 years, including 11 in her current role. The assessor is responsible for overseeing mass appraisals used to calculate property taxes.
The incumbent, Assessor Cindy Portmann, cannot run for re-election because of term limits. Portmann has endorsed Hjelle.
Hjelle lives near Granite Falls. If elected, she promised to place a premium on delivering customer service.
Hjelle’s involvement in her community extends to the Soroptimists, the League of Women Voters, Fire District 17 Christmas House, Relay For Life and the Granville Grange. More info: lindaforassessor.com.
To make their candidacy official, would-be contenders must file paperwork with the county auditor between May 11 and 15. The primary election is set for Aug. 4 and the general election for Nov. 3.
