Meadowdale High School student Lauren Gates spent the week of Jan. 12-16 as a page in the State Senate.
“It was great having Lauren here this week,” said Sen. Marko Liias, who sponsored Lauren’s week in the Legislature. “She was very helpful.”
Pages spend their week in the Legislature assisting senators and staff, attending lectures with guest speakers, and attending page school where they create their own bills in a mock committee setting. Gates and her fellow pages drafted a bill on abortion education.
Gates said that the page program gave her valuable insight into how government works.
“It’s really fun but really busy,” she said. “My favorite part was listening in on committee hearings.”
Liias represents the 21st Legislative District, including Meadowdale and other unincorporated areas north of Lynnwood and Edmonds and northeast of Lynnwood, along with most of Edmonds, all of Mukilteo and part of south Everett.
