Boeing leads defense firms in federal lobbying

Boeing outspent all major defense firms last year in lobbying Congress and executive agencies, according to analysis of public records by Politico.

The airplane maker spent $16.7 million. United Technologies came next with $15.5 million, followed by Lockheed Martin with $14.4 million.

In all, major defense companies spent $96.7 million in lobbying the federal government.

Much of Boeing’s spending was likely driven by its effort to save the U.S. Export-Import Bank, which many Tea Party Republicans want to kill off.

Last year’s lobbying total was down from 2013, which saw defense firms spend a combined $105.5 million, reports Politico.
