Few if any players are more respected in the Seahawks’ locker room that safety Kam Chancellor, who is both a leader off the field and an enforcer on it. As feared as Chancellor is by opponents, he is equally revered by his teammates, and because Chancellor’s national profile has grown following a huge game against Carolina, he has been the topic of a lot of questions this week.
The answers show just what the Seahawks think of their defensive captain.
“We’re a bunch of wild dogs until the big lion comes, then we’re bad,” cornerback Richard Sherman said. “We’re some bad men with him around. He just brings that menacing force. We’re a bunch of wild dogs, and a pack of wild dogs is pretty dangerous, but a lion running with a pack of wild dogs, that’s something.
Adds defensive end Michael Bennett: “Ferocious. He’s a great team leader. He’s just a beast out there. He does everything you want an NFL player to do. You want him to be able to cover, you want a guy to be able to tackle, you want a guy to be able to lead, and when you speak of all those things, you’re speaking about Kam Chancellor.”
When linebacker Bobby Wagner was asked to describe Chancellor, he came up with this: “Animal, beast, anything that eats mammals, something along those lines.”
