ORTING — Lake Stevens junior Michael Soler defeated Orting’s Ben Gore in a 5-4 decision on Friday night in the second half of a double dual between state wrestling powers.
The Vikings, ranked third in Class 4A by Washington Wrestling Report beat No. 4 Yelm 42-24 earlier in the evening, a match that saw Soler fall in a 4-2 decision to the Tornados’ Darren Harris.
Harris was ranked No. 1 in Class 4A at 126 pounds, but moved up to 132 to take on Soler, who is ranked third at the higher weight.
Soler rebounded with a tough win over Gore, the top-ranked 132-pounder in Class 2A and a state champion last year.
