The state Department of Transportation planned to close the southbound Highway 529 bridge over the Snohomish River this weekend for adjustments.
The planned closure was slated to start Friday night, Jan. 23. All lanes are scheduled to reopen by 5 a.m. Monday, Jan. 26. Southbound drivers should use I-5 during the closures. Local access to Smith Island will be available via the Fourth Street exit at Tulalip.
Contractors are to make adjustments to the new machinery installed as part of a special bridge repair project completed in October 2013. The new equipment is used to raise and lower the bridge drawspan.
