SEATTLE — People without health insurance may find something more than new shoes or clothing at their local shopping mall this weekend.
State health officials are running sign-up events for health insurance at malls across Washington.
The health exchange is hoping the events will remind people they have until Feb. 15 to sign up for insurance this year. Friday was the deadline for signing up for insurance that is effective Feb. 1. Those who buy insurance by Feb. 15 will have coverage starting on March 1.
Only people who have life changing events, such as losing their job or having a baby, will be able to sign up for individual health insurance at another time before next fall.
The events are in Bellingham, Everett, Olympia, Spokane, Seattle, Tacoma, Vancouver and Yakima.
