Seahawks players have spent the last few days raving about the contributions that Brandon Browner made to the team in his three seasons with the Seahawks. Even as they prepare to face him and the New England Patriots in the Super Bowl, players like Richard Sherman says Browner is still a part of the Legion of Boom, having been a founding member in 2011, Sherman’s rookie season, Browner’s first in the NFL and Kam Chancellor’s first as a starter.
In an interview with ESPN’s Josina Anderson, however, Browner said friendship ends on the field. In fact, when asked about his injured former teammates—Sherman (elbow) and Earl Thomas (shoulder) are both recovering from injuries suffered in the NFC championship game—Browner praised his teammates’ toughness, but he also suggested his teammates should go after those injuries.
“Those dudes are tough,” Browner told Anderson. “Watching the game, you see Sherman was holding that arm like he had a sling on. But At the end of the day, this is about the Super Bowl. I’m gonna tell my teammates ‘go hit that elbow, go hit that shoulder. Most definitely. Hit it, yeah. Try to break it if you can. You can be my best friend after the game but, at the end of the day, I know you want the Super Bowl just as bad as I do.”
Browner isn’t scheduled to speak to reporters Monday when the Patriots arrive, so we’ll have to wait to see if he backs off from those comments Tuesday. The Seahawks meet with the media later this afternoon, however, so there’s sure to be some reaction to Browner’s comments.
