Stanwood’s West Weinert and Oak Harbor’s Jeremy Vester squared off on Tuesday night in a battle of Class 3A’s No. 1 and No. 2 wrestlers in Class 3A at 138 pounds, according to Washington Wrestling Report.
Weinert prevailed in a 5-2 decision, with the Spartan senior jumping out to an early advantage and holding Vester off the rest of the way to earn the victory.
Stanwood coach Ray Mather said that Weinert expertly played off Vester’s aggressiveness later in the match, adding a few insurance points as the Oak Harbor senior was forced to shoot on him in an attempt to get back into the match.
Weinert and Vester will likely see each other a few more times before Mat Classic, assuming neither moves up or down in weight class for the postseason.
