Local wildlife: The Camano Wildlife Habitat Project will teach people about common animals found in Snohomish and Island counties on Saturday. The presentation starts at 1 p.m. in the Whale Room and store at Cama Beach State Park. The park’s collection of preserved animals, pelts and bones will be on display, and a scope will let people observe shorebirds in the bay, weather permitting. Backcountry film fest: The Backcountry Film Festival highlights films from professional and amateur filmmakers. The festival hopes to protect winter landscapes for human-powered users. Stillaguamish Eagle Festival: The festival is Feb. 6 and 7 in Arlington and Feb. 7 in Darrington. Arlington highlights include bird-watching tours, chainsaw carving, paddle rafting, horse drawn wagon rides, music, tractor show, animal show and “Salmon Wheel of Fortune.” The Darrington festival has eagle viewing at Squire Creek Park, horseback rides, Old Fortson Mill tours, Native American flute music, art show, quilt show, poetry reading and a scavenger hunt. Guided walk: Friends of Camano Island Parks offers a guided walk at 9:50 a.m. Feb. 7 at the Camano Ridge Forest Preserve. The trail is 3.3 miles round trip, with about 200 feet of elevation gain at the beginning. The hike is about two hours and takes place rain or shine. Wear appropriate clothes and sturdy shoes or boots. No dogs. Meet at 9:50 a.m. at the Camano Multipurpose Center (blue building), 141 N East Camano Drive. Trail booklets and maps will be available at the walk for a suggested $1 donation.
Hummingbirds: See the film “First Flight: A Mother Hummingbird’s Story” at 7 p.m. Feb. 13 at the Northwest Stream Center at McCollum Park, 600 128th St. SE, Everett. The film is 45 minutes long. After the show, you’ll get a chance to see a real hummingbird nest and learn more about hummingbirds in the Northwest. Free, but reservations are required by calling 425-316-8592.
Count birds: The Great Backyard Bird Count is Feb. 13 through 16. Anyone can count birds at any locations for at least 15 minutes. After your count, enter your results at www.birdcount.org. The information gathered helps track changes in bird populations. Go to the website for more information.
Local birds: Joe Meche, of the North Cascades Audubon Society, will present a slide show of birds of Camano Island at 7 p.m. Feb. 18 at the Camano Multipurpose Building, 141 N East Camano Drive. Free.
Mountain Loop: Learn about the hiking basics and the trails of the Mountain Loop Highway at three upcoming talks, Feb. 22, March 29 and April 26 at the City of Arlington utilities office, 154 W. Cox St., Arlington. Classes are $10. Register at 360-403-3448. Walk-ins are also welcome.

Bike ride: The McClinchy Mile Oso Strong Ride on March 15 will raise money for a community trail and honor those affected by the Oso mudslide. Two routes are available, 34 miles and 56 miles. The money raised will go to the Whitehorse Trail and local bike tourism. The rides will travel on State Route 530 through the mudslide area. Food stops are planned in Oso and Darrington.
