MUKILTEO — The Kamiak girls basketball team held off a second-half Snohomish rally to earn a 55-53 victory over the Panthers in Wesco 4A action Friday night.
The Knights led by 34-20 at the break, but scored just 19 points in the second half, which proved to be just enough as they improved to 10-7 overall and 7-4 in league play.
“The first half was our half and the second half was theirs,” Kamiak head coach Brian Norman said. “We were able to make enough plays down the stretch to win the game.”
Madeline Smith led the second-half charge for the Panthers, finishing with a game-high 26 points. Katie Brandvold added 10 points for Snohomish.
“They came out pretty concentrated on getting the ball to Smith in the second half,” Norman said. “We had some foul trouble on our bigs and they got it to her, and she’s a great player and was able to do whatever she wanted inside.”
Sarah Payne led the Knights with 18 points, including three 3-pointers, and Grace Hamill added 10.
“She’s one of those athletic kids who can create her own shot,” Norman said of Payne. “We looked for her to score and she delivered tonight.”
